Every music school has an origin story. Ours started small, literally. Three years ago, Prestige College of Music was one room, one keyboard, and twelve students learning piano in Lagos. There was no brand, no marketing, no system. Just a simple conviction: Nigerian children deserve music education that is as rigorous, structured, and world-class as anything offered anywhere else in the world.
Why “Raising Global Stars” Isn’t Just a Tagline
When we say Prestige exists to “raise global stars through music,” we mean it literally. Our vision was never to run a neighborhood music class. It was to build an institution that could take a shy eight-year-old and, through consistent, quality instruction, help them become a confident performer, a skilled musician, or simply someone who carries music with them for life, wherever in the world that life takes them.
That vision required more than good teachers. Lagos has never lacked musical talent. What it lacked was the infrastructure to let that talent reach families consistently and reliably: proper curriculum design, structured progress tracking, clear communication with parents, and a learning environment that treats music education with the seriousness it deserves.
From One School to Three Pillars
Today, Prestige has grown into three connected efforts:
Prestige College of Music: our physical school in Lagos, now training over 500 students across piano lessons, vocal lessons, guitar lessons, and more.
Prestige Digital Academy: because a great music education shouldn’t require living in Lagos. Our online music lessons are built for the diaspora community and any family, anywhere, who wants their child learning from Prestige-trained instructors.
PrestigeOS: a project born out of a simple observation: many brilliant music teachers and church worship leaders across Africa are running entire schools and ministries from a WhatsApp group and a notebook. PrestigeOS is our attempt to build the operating system that lets that talent scale, for music schools and churches alike.
The Lesson That Shaped All of This
If there’s one lesson from this journey worth sharing, it’s this: passion builds the first twelve students. Systems build the next five hundred. Talent alone doesn’t scale, but talent paired with the right structure can transform a neighborhood classroom into something that reaches a continent.
We’re still early in this journey. But the goal has never been to build one great music school. It’s to make world-class music education a default expectation for African families, not a privilege reserved for the few.
